Under this heading you will find an introduction to CCUG activities:
CCUG: Culture Collection, University of Göteborg, Sweden
The CCUG is devoted to the identification of bacteria. CCUG accession numbers have reached 55000
The CCUG holds a broad range of bacteria and the most demanded test strains of filamentous fungi and yeasts. We do not hold extremophils or intracellular organisms and we do not distribute hazard group 3 organisms. Cultures are freeze-dried and may be sent abroad promptly under controlled forms. Our identification service has been active for 39 years. We have huge databases and we are pleased to share the information with you through our search engine.
Isolates submitted for identification are characterized by determination of physiology and growth characteristics, traditional biochemical reactions, fatty acid profiles (CFA(FAME)), protein profiles (SDS-PAGE-GelCompar), DNA techniques such as 16S rRNA sequencing, and other techniques. A large number of strains represent species not yet described. In collaboration with foreign reseach groups we formally describe novel species. We have significantly contributed to the understanding of the diversity of the human microbial flora.
